Megatron '07
TRANSFORMERS REVIEW
The Megatron that appears in the Transformers
(2007) film is an intelligent, witty and lustrous
alien robot with more pressing things on his mind than
reformatting into an "earthen mode". In motion, his
robot form is regal, menacing and fluid, and in jet
form he is sleek and aerodynamic.
The transition to very expensive action figure has somehow taken these attributes and left them on the drawing board, instead replacing them with a mess of plastic that bears more resemblance to randomly stacked pile of dismembered limbs. It simply just doesn't work. Remember playing the game "Operation" as a kid? Remember losing all the pieces? Well Hasbro found them all and stuck 'em on Megatron! No, that's cruel. To be fair, this Megatron exudes a definite Beast Wars/Beast Machine quality. In fact, he could be a Vehicon. So if you were a fan of the more extreme (read: ugly) designs from those ranges, then this figure could well be for you.
There is no transformation to speak of as such. You can rearrange and twist the robot limbs and, sure, the "automorph" feature springs out a very nice set of wings; but considering the amount of robot left hanging underneath, you just can't call it a jet—alien or otherwise.
The only positives I can come up with for Megatron are the weapons. Put simply, they are fantastic; including the whip, which really does whip!
Megatron's robot mode sports a lot of moulded detail, and I must admit to liking his colour scheme. And if you push his button in the dark, the lights and alien-screeching noise could very well cause a small child to spontaneously defaecate. Oh yes, scary stuff.
But, to conclude: No. Don't.
Megatron was released worldwide in 2007 as part of the line based on the characters from the live-action "Transformers" feature film.
