Binaltech/Masterpiece

In 2003 Takara began to drip-release its Binaltech range. New versions of original Transformers characters were re-imagined into officially licenced, super-detailed, 1:24 scale die-cast model vehicles with highly engineered transformation sequences and fully articulated robot modes.

At the end of the same year Hasbro started its Alternators range; all-plastic versions of the Binaltech range. However, the Alternators outlasted the Binaltech range giving rise to 1:24 scale Transformers such as Mirage and Rumble not being released with die-cast contruction.

Concurrent with the Binaltech range, Takara released their Masterpiece line. Optimus Prime, Megatron and Starscream were reconceived into highly advanced (and very expensive) engineering masterworks.
