Ransack
Assuming the form of a WW1 German military biplane, Ransack is almost a century out of place when compared to the more contemporary vehicle modes chosen by his Decepticon friends. The biplane mode is actually a first in the Transformers’ 25-year heritage. Just when you think Hasbro couldn’t come up with anything original anymore, along comes Ransack.
Though only a small “Scout-Class” figure, Ransack packs a lot of charm into such a bijou Transformer. There is an amazing amount of painted detail, from the metallic green and red detailing along the fuselage, and the silver engine, to the combined Decepticon symbol/”Iron Cross” badge on the tops of the wings.
There are even under-wing mounted machine guns and bombs. While the forward propeller moves freely, the wheels do not.
Ransack transforms (via an intermediate “battle mode”) into a creepy, insect-like robot. The limbs are slight and the plane’s wings split and fold down behind the robot like insect wings.
It’s quite fitting, actually, since the original Ransack character from 1985 was an Insecticon. In fact, this figure would be a perfect match for an Earth-mode Waspinator.
As spindly as it is, the robot mode is also quite fragile. With only ball joints holding it all together, the arms are prone to popping free. However, there is a lot of scope for posing the robot in different positions.
Despite its eggshell nature, the robot is just as endearing as the biplane mode. One nice touch is that the plane’s weapons rotate to become mounted on the robot’s forearms.
Ransack is a truly unique addition to the many hundreds of Transformers released over the last twenty five years, and certainly one of the most likable of the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen line. Chocks away!
