I always loved Jose Delbo's art in "Rhythms of Darkness". It slipped a little bit for the action scenes later in the comic (though Getaway clouting Scourge with a tree had a certain stoic quality to it), but the first half especially was very doom-laden. The art is tidier in general and just has a bit more life - which is surprising as Delbo had still been awful right up to "Deadly Obsession"!

To go on a tangent, my main problem with the story is with the scripting - not just the awful Stars & Stripes saves the world ending, but it suffers from the same problem as most Marvel What If...? stories of the time - our surviving heroes have somehow lived through all this carnage and destruction, and yet half of them die in a stupid fashion in rapid succession making you wonder how they'd lived so long.

I personally feel double-page spreads are grossly overused in most modern comics, as are splash pages. Neither Dreamwave or IDW make very good use of the space, it's often just a scene with one or two characters that you can take in in about a second, and after a comic made up of the things you're left feeling very unsatisfied.
