Bugly
ALLEGIANCE: DECEPTICON
SUB-GROUP(S): PRETENDER
FUNCTION: STRATEGIST
“The greatest power is the power to control.”
First Appearance: Transformers 162
Significant Appearances: Transformers 162-163, 206-209
The cruelest Decepticon strategist. Not interested in how many enemies can be destroyed in a single attack, only how slow and agonising their deaths will be. Very mystical and very intense. Difficult to converse with as many of his comrades feel he is too mystical and intense and so no one really understands him. Obsessed with Cybertronian legends and myths — spent centuries channelling his inner energies to develop his skills in the deadly martial art of “Circuit-Su.” Always on the look-out for an Autobot opponent who has also mastered this art. Unlike other strategists, likes to be at the front-line, cruelly and skilfully executing his meticulous plans. Particularly vain, and not at all happy with the look of his Pretender Shell which is based upon the Vespterans of the planet Nebulos. Reluctantly makes use of it in battle as he knows the Autobots find it even more offensive than he does.
Abilities: A deadly warrior in battle with pinpoint manoeuvrability in the air. Transforms into a Cybertronian laser-jet with built in forward-thrust turbo boosters that allow him to reach speeds in excess of 4 000 km/h for 17 second periods. Normal cruising speed: 1 600 km/h; range: 3 500 km. In robot mode, armed with two photon rifles. One of the few Transformers to have mastered Circuit-Su — has the ability to channel energy into a powerful electrical blast. Electro-stingers mounted on the helmet of his Pretender Shell allow him to control this blast and deliver 3 000 volt charges that paralyse on contact. Able to pilot his outer Shell by remote control.
Weaknesses: Easily depressed by comments on his outer Shell, especially the nickname “fugly.” The use of his channelling ability is very energon intensive, anything more than three consecutive blasts leaves him completely drained. Also suffers the usual side effects of the Pretender process.
